Sodium Beta Alumina Solid Electrolyte ??
I'm going to try my hand at building my own Sodium/Nickel Thermal Battery pack.
Only problem I'm running into is a source for Na-β″-alumina and/or it's precursors. I want it in powder or paste/slurry form so I can dictate it's final shape and sinter it myself.
Does anyone have and info on sources of Na-β″-alumina, or info on the precursors. (β-alumina, Aluminum Oxide, Sodium Oxide)
I've found numerous sources for Aluminum Oxide of questionable grade, 1 or 2 sources for β-alumina, but no sources for Sodium Oxide (NaO2) or Na-β″-alumina.
NGK uses beta alumina in their Sodium-Sulfur (NaS) batteries.
I don't know if this is sodium beta alumina, but there is a good chance it is.
Perhaps, if you find the right contact person(s), you could obtain a quantity of beta alumina "for research purposes" from them?
