Sadly enough your computer at home may not handle Windows 7. You need to go into Microsoft on your XPS and find out. Link is below. Now we need know about your XPS computer. Xp we have that, 32 or 64 bit? Both disc come with a retail package of Windows 7. Oem ? not sure. You most likely have a 32 bit system. Here's the legal problem. Only one computer can have the license to the set or single disc of that issue. I have these, both types. Each time you boot your computer it is validated. Event viewer shows this. It will be consider illegal to Microsoft. They will not do updates for you and possibly not on your Inspiron too. Dell takes care of Windows 7 as they are supposed to. That's the "OEM" version and what oem is about. If you buy Windows 7 , ( store , online, etc), it is retail. Dell will know right away that the OS is not their OEM version on the computer it was installed on. I did not know this until I went into Microsoft driving our Dell, and they told me that they could not help, to go to Dell. But I get updates from Microsoft. To prove a point I went to Dell with one of the built computers. I was told "we don't support the computer". (Retail version of Windows 7). I am sorry to tell you but, there is only a small percentage that it would work, and you will get caught. Take care.
